Creative Magazine Spread

Date

April 2025

Location

Description

This is one of my favorite pieces I’ve created. I was tasked with designing a six-page magazine feature for ThreeSixFive, complete with a cover, opening spread, secondary spread, and an alternative story form (ASF). I chose the London edition—a city I’ve visited and deeply admire—for its rich cultural identity and instantly recognizable visual cues.

This project offered more creative freedom than previous assignments, allowing me to fully explore layout experimentation, typographic styling, and image layering. While I had experience with InDesign, I encountered new technical and creative challenges—especially fitting editorial content into the secondary spread without sacrificing visual balance.

On the cover, I carefully aligned subtext to preserve the visibility of Big Ben, and I designed a clean sidebar that complemented the poster feature without distracting from the lead story. I spent time exploring visual techniques like poster rotation, layering, and subtle drop shadows to add dimension without clutter.

Throughout the full piece, I maintained visual cohesion through a limited, purposeful color palette—highlighting London’s signature red in accents like the Underground icon—and a weighted sans serif typeface carried across the cover, spreads, and ASF. The ASF, while unique in structure, was designed to reflect British visual culture and mirror the tone of the main article.

This project sharpened my sense of typographic hierarchy, color consistency, and modular layout. But more than anything, it taught me to trust my creative instincts, work through obstacles, and create something that feels polished, thoughtful, and entirely my own.
